What is spray tanning?
Spray tanning is the easiest and safest way to get a nice dark healthy tan! WIth absolutely NO sun. It's by far the safest way to tan.
A fine mist of solution is applied to the skin by a airbrush. The active ingredient used in the solution is called DHA Dihydroxyacetone. DHA is a simple carb that is from sugar beets and sugar cane. This was approved by the FDA in the 1970's. DHA does NOT damage the skin and is considered a safe skin color agent and supplement.
DHA only penetrates the first layer of skin, which is dead. This layer of skin mixes with amino acids & creates a beautiful glow of a tan!
The Procedure
RELAX...this procedure should be totally comfortable for you! At anytime you are uncomfortable please let the technician know. Hair Chateau supplies our clients with complimentary under garments for men & women. You will be asked to change into these garments prior to service.
Hair Chateau airbrush tan is done by a Spray Tan Technician. You will be asked to stand inside our "Tiki Tent" which has a filtered ventilation fan inside for your safety as well as the technicians.
To begin the session a bronzer will be applied over the skin, starting at the back of the legs and working up the body to give you a tan. You will be asked to move different ways so that the technician is able to airbrush all areas accurately.
The procedure takes about 30 minutes. After the application is complete we recommend 10 minutes of drying time to ensure the best spray tan!
DHA is actually clear and will produce the tan over the next 6 to 8 hours.

Before Spray Tan
- Exfoliate~ Since DHA reacts with dead skin cells, patches of dry skin may result in uneven, blotchy coloring. Exfoliate your body with a loofah or scrub and moisturize well.
- Waxing/Shaving~ IF you plan to shave or get a wax, do so before your spray treatment to prevent fading.
- Lose or Dark Clothing~ While the tanner itself will not stain clothing, the bronzer will. Wear loose or dark clothing to the salon & avoid white clothing/ bedding until you have showered.
- Avoid Makeup, Deodorant and Perfume~ Some of these products may prevent the tanning solution form reacting with skin properly and others can even cause skin to turn green.
After Spray Tan
No swimming, sweating, or showering for 6 to 8 hours after spray tanning. The DHA takes time to develop. (when showering after allotted time you may see bronzer washing off, this is normal.)
DO NOT:
- Take long showers/baths or use Dove brand soap or body wash
- Use make up removers or Curel lotions
- Hair inhibitor lotions, acne, beta hydroxy, or bug spray products.
Maintaining your Spray Tan
- Use a soft washcloth while bathing or showering.
- Pat your skin dry (NO rubbing).
- Apply lotion 2-3 times daily.
- Use shower gel only! (NO bar soaps)
